Significant Authors and their Publications

Read about some of the most significant authors and their research published in Journal of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology during the last 100 years.

Ole Maaløe

Through his career, Danish Ole Maaløe made extensive contributions, including numerous articles in Journal of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, to the realm of molecular biology. His academic prowess extends across immunology, bacterial populations, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bacterial control mechanisms.

His seminal work delved into the growth of bacteria, particularly unravelling the significance of ribosomes in protein synthesis, and his influence stretched across borders, establishing close connections with key figures in molecular biology, including James D. Watson and Max Delbrück.

Maaløe’s leadership at the Standardization Department at the Statens Serum Institut showed his commitment to research amid routine responsibilities with his mantra: “We standardize only on Mondays!”

In 1963, Maaløe co-founded the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and later served as its advisor. Recognition for his contributions came in 1968 when he received the Anders Jahre Prize, and in 1974, he became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences.

At PMI, we salute Maaløe’s work and persona, aiming to carry on his legacy of international travels and contacts by being part of establishing a robust global research network.
